The JunoCam imager on NASA’s Juno spacecraft snapped this shot of Jupiter’s northern latitudes on Dec. 11, 2016 at 8:47 a.m. PST (11:47 a.m. EST), as the spacecraft performed a close flyby of the gas giant planet. The spacecraft was at an altitude of 10,300 miles (16,600 kilometers) above Jupiter’s cloud tops. My good friend Muddy past today. He will be fondly remembered and sorely missed. A father to my oldest and dearest friend, my friend and the Aquila’s skipper for more hours of spearfishing than I can count. Thank you for all the laughter (often at your own expense), for the hours on the boat skippering for us, the fish we caught and ate, for opening your home to me for over 25 years and always making me feel welcome. Fair winds and following seas my Friend.
