On being grateful

What a week.

Usually when folks say this on a Friday they talking about the manic week they’ve had at work and how pleased they are the week is finished and they can relax on the weekend.

I could say that too. It’s been incredibly busy this week with work. But it’s gone well and really it’s not what I meant when I said “what a week”.

A couple of months ago things changed for me. Best way to describe it would be to imagine yourself nice and content having nodded off on the couch with the warm winter sunshine on your back as you snooze the day away. That was me…snoooozing away. Now imagine a ice bucket being thrown over you! Wow. You awake now I can tell you and you probably not going to be to happy about having your lovely long snooze on the couch you where enjoying so much interrupted in such a dramatic fashion…but you up now. You awake. So what if it meant you now got to go outside and enjoy the best day of winter with the sunshine on your back while you did your favourite walk? Perhaps with friends or someone close to you?

I took the change as an opportunity to re-evaluate everything, I mean everything. Keep what was right and good in my life and change what was not right or not working. The past seven days I’ve been rewarded for some tough decisions, dedication and hard work over these past two months. And it feels good.

  • Work is going really well and I could not expect things to be going any better than they are right now.
  • Mum and I bought a beautiful plot together, in Kidd’s Beach. I have roots here now, this is home. Something I’ve not being able to say for 20 years since we lost the farm and I never quite got how much that meant to me till now.
  • I found a Irish Setter pup who arrives next week from Natal. Never a replacement for a lost companion, but rather a new friend and a new journey which I’m terribly excited about. [Edit: Mal has arrived! Here some pics and news]

What a week.
