This past weekend I got the opportunity to get away to Bushmans to celebrate Tracy and Dru’s birthdays, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. How lekker is that 🙂
We left Kidds after work on Friday and had a really enjoyable drive down to Bushmans. We arrived around 7ish and settled in with a few cold beers and good ol’ braai with great company. Fantastic!
Saturday started with a cup of coffee and rusk enjoying the early morning sunrise before everyone got up. Was a beautiful morning and getting to enjoy a wonderful view with a rusk, coffee and sunrise, well that just makes me smile…
It was Tracy’s birthday Saturday and the kids made her breakfast (I was jealous! looked stunning) and once we where all sunscreened up we hit the beach for a nice long walk. Bushmans has an amazing long beach, a few kilometres at least and we walked most of it. We collected shells and the girls where super eco warriors picking up a huge amount of plastic. Well done girls!
On the way back we swam in the river. It’s very tidal and pretty fast flowing so it’s great fun to run up the bank then float down.
We had a blast doing that a few times before we headed home to prep the boat as we where going to go up river and ski.
The wind has unfortunately came up by this point which was fine, but meant we could not ski. We did get the girls out on the tube though for a bit but even that was a bit hectic with the wind and tide affect. So we decided to cruise up river and find a nice secluded spot for some swimming (you can only ski in a certain part of the river). So we cruised up all the way to Kriega game reserve seeing some amazing bird life on the way. We anchored up in a stunning spot and spent an hour or so enjoying a few cold beers and a nice swim. While there we got treated to a giraffe sighting, super special!
As we where just about to head off, a few old salty sea dogs (fishermen) tied up and started fishing. They almost immediately wanted to know why where not worried about the Zambezi sharks that liked to frequent this part of the river… mmm
Lunch time! There is a cracking floating restaurant on the river and we made a bee line for it as we where all bit hungry after the endeavours of the morning so far. It was calamari and chips all round, lovely! The view was just stunning too. You pull up in the boat, tie up and sit out side enjoying the fantastic view of the river. Just brilliant.
Then it was back him for a lazy afternoon on couch. That evening we had a stunning lamb curry for supper and a few glasses of wine to wash it down. Great end to a fantastic day.
Sunday and Dru’s birthday! After we where all up we had some breakfast and hit the beach again for a nice bit of swimming and sunshine. We had to head home of course later so we made the most of that before making our way back for some lunch.
We travelled back later that afternoon and with that a wonderful weekend break with such great people came to an end. Thank you everyone for the great time.
