It’s Tuesday afternoon and I’m sitting outside enjoying the lovely sun on my back. I’ve just finished a busy day but really wanted to write this post to share the news and pics from the weekend.
I spent the weekend out in Simon’s Town with a close friend of mine and some newly acquired friends, just from this weekend in fact 🙂 I’d only intended to stay on till Saturday but the way things turned out I stayed on to enjoy a lovely weekend break.
Simon’s Town is one of the oldest towns in South Africa and has a very strong navel history, today still being the main base for the South African Navy. (Read more about Simon’s Town here)
Sarah picked me up after work and we drove through on Friday night. We picked up some snacks and vino for a light dinner on the way which we enjoyed on the veranda of this stunning old cottage over looking the harbour and False Bay.
Being winter it was dark already but the view, even at night, is stunning. We enjoyed some good wine and even better conversation till late even when the rain came down we just shuffled under the veranda roof even more! Just stunning, really fantastic evening.
We had a late start on Saturday and mooched around most of the day till Team B arrived. I’m always apprehensive about meeting new people, but should have know better being friends of Sarah’s, they where all great.
The rugga was on and only myself and Laeni where keen to watch, so we headed off to find a pub. The game had started already so we took the first option we came across… I joked as we walked up to the door that this looked like the kind of place where you walk through the door, everyone stops talking and turns around to stare… the shit I say sometimes… no sooner had I said it and we walked through the door and everyone did just that! I thought, bugger it. Rugga is on, they can just deal with it 🙂
To be fair, the crowd at the Lord Nelson where actually great, I think they where staring as they where wondering who the hell would miss the kick off, fair enough! I’m not going to mention what happened in the rugby, note only that it perhaps did not go as expected…
We returned after the game and had a cracking night playing Cranium where I found out that not only am I a crap puppet master, but a crap puppet too… hey ho. Guess it’s just not my calling. Saturday was an early night, comparatively, and we woke to a absolutely stunning morning on Sunday.
After a fantastic breakfast we had a serious lay about. It was stunning, and completely chilled out. Reading, chatting, tea… just great.
We did want to get a little bit of exercise at least, so walked down to the beach. We got lucky and got to see the Atlantic Express (an old steam train) arrive at Simon’s Town station.
After a late lunch and some constructive lazing about it was time to clean up and head home.
