A look back… Easter in Cornwall

So was thinking about Easter weekend in Cornwall and in particularly the Good Friday walk which is a fantastic tradition in Mousehole. It stems from the Spanish raid of 1595 (Wikipedia article on the raid). If I remember the story correctly, the women of the village would dress up and carry sticks so that they looked like soldiers caring muskets, then patrol the cliffs between Lamorna and Mousehole to give the Spanish the impression that the village was well defended. (If I got the story wrong please correct me in the comments below).

So now, every Good Friday, the villages of Mousehole and Paul walk to Lamorna in remembrance of this. Or just for a nice walk and a pint at the Wink after 🙂

I took the following over several years, not 100% sure if we did it every year I was there, but got pics for two walks at least so that seems to be best guess. Enjoy! You can click on the image to enlarge it.
