After reading this post from the Greenpeace blog on the critically important battle going on right now for the Arctic, this paragraph really struck home for me;
As Ben Metcalfe, one of the original Greenpeace crew once said; Once you have witnessed an injustice, you cannot claim ignorance as a defence for inaction. You make an ethical choice: to act – or not.
We are at a tipping point for our society as we know it. I believe that apathy is rife in our society, for each other, for our communities, for our animals we share this planet with and for the planet itself. People just do not care enough to actually do something.
This is not an attack on you, but a comment on society in general. However, we as people that still care enough to do something should do so before there are not enough of us left to make a difference, or when it’s to late to make a difference anyway.
“Doing something” does not have to entail getting arrested for boarding a drilling rig in the Arctic… it can be something as small as telling another person about what’s really going in the world, and how you believe it’s wrong.
It is only when the global conscious is in agreement that things will change.
For a start, read this article, watch the video and show someone else.
Apathy will be our downfall, it’s time to do something. If you not sure what, look around in your community for a way to help others and the animals that live around you, especially in the oceans. And the bigger picture? I believe Greenpeace is doing amazing work on all our behalf , tell someone: http://www.greenpeace.org/arctic.
