News in from me old buddy Ross who had a cracking day diving yesterday. Having spent hours hunting those beauties myself, take it from me, those are bloody good fish for Mount’s Bay! Nice one Boet!
Here’s the detail from Ross:
Had a great day spearfishing today. Went out with Dad in perfect weather to the Greeb. Dived hard for zilch.
Then on to Mt Mopus, dropped a marker bouy and started drift diving in strong current.
I could manage about 4 to 5 dives per drift before Dad had to pick me up and steam up again.
On the first drift I dived 5 times and saw 4 shoals. Fish everywhere and some big ones too.
But jeez what a comedy of cockups. Nothing that I did wrong really. Just stuff like the fish always appearing behind me. They were pretty skittish too.
Once I saw them from the surface in about 12 meters of water and I dived down and through them and they followed me all the way to the bottom but as I hit the bottom and lifted my gun they shot off.
Finally I started to get some luck and I shot the first. 8 pounder I reckon at least. Then soon after I shot another whopper about the same size in the kelp.
2 beauties in the boat. Also shot another about 5 to 6 pound.
